| Subject: "How Sweet the Sound" reviewed by David Steinbergg Posted by : webmaster 12/01/2002 at 22:55:20 Message: David Steinberg, Albuquerque Journal Staff Writer, included "How Sweet the Sound" in his review of distinctive holiday CDs in the Dec. 1, 2001 issue of the Journal. Here is what he said: The duo of Kari Simmons and Todd Lowry are, in a way, like Linda Cotton. They're Albuquerque performers who are so good that you wonder why they're still playing clubs here and not working in a metropolis. No complaint. Just an observation. So we should be grateful that Simmons, a singer, and Lowry, a pianist/singer, can be heard at local venues. Their latest album, "How Sweet the Sound, Songs of Inspiration," is another testament to their overriding talent, and it's appropriate for the season without focusing solely on holiday themes. The CD's highlights? That's up to the listener. Mine are chestnuts that receive a fresh interpretation from Simmons. Among them are "What a Wonderful World," "Amazing Grace," "God Bless the Child" and "Song of Bernadette." Simmons has the kind of voice you would prefer to hear in concert. Lowry said they're planning one. Stay tuned. Visit their Web site www.kariandtodd.com. |
